South Africa has one of the highest rates of GBV in the world. Recent statistics from

the SAPS show that thousands of women and children are victims of violence. For

example, in just the first few months of 2024, there were over 11,000 cases of

common assault and over 1,500 cases of murder where the victims were women

and children. This data shows the urgent need for a way to identify and protect

people at risk.

The South African government has put legal frameworks in place to fight GBV. One

key part is the National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide

(NSP-GBVF), launched in 2020. This plan is a significant national effort to prevent

violence, help survivors, and make sure that those who commit these crimes are

held responsible. A risk assessment tool helps put this plan into action by helping

professionals identify danger and respond quickly.

Project PHC aims to alleviate pressure on the South African public health care system (PHCS). The PHCS caters for the needs of 80% of the population with about 30% of the resources of the private health care system that caters for the remaining 20% of the population The PHCS is severely under resourced and over stressed.

Project PHC is a mobile app and accessories that links directly to the national patient management system. The system aims to streamline the assessment, diagnosis and referral of patient in the system. Helping less health care workers take care of more people faster

About

With over 24 years of experience in UX and industrial design, I use a user-centred design philosophy that covers the five key stages of UX design: research, design, testing, implementation, and evaluation. My expertise is a deep understanding of "Kaizen," (the Japanese concept of continuous improvement derived from LEAN principles), and the "Plan, Do, Check, Act" methodologies of ISO 9001 quality standards. This solid foundation allows me to champion the principles of Human-Centred Design and consistently deliver solutions that meet user needs.

My portfolio spans sectors such as military and law enforcement, medical devices, and digital applications. It enables me to tailor my strategies effectively for various user contexts. I am enthusiastic about incorporating user feedback throughout the design process, ensuring that the end-user experience drives every project I undertake. This commitment not only enhances usability but also creates a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, positioning me as a strategic partner in delivering impactful design solutions.
